Dr. Shun-Rong Zhang is a space scientist working for MIT Haystack Observatory. His research focuses on upper atmospheric climatology, variability, long-term changes, and geospace weather (space weather). He has been invloved in a number of research projects funded by the US NSF, NASA, AFOSR, NRL etc as a PI or Co-I (see some of his recent projects here). He is also engaged in collaboration with colleagues from around the world. He works closely with junior scholars of various levels, including mentoring REU students since the early 2000s. He won the 1996 COSPAR Zeldovich Award. He has authored 100+ peer-reviewed journal papers, half of which are first-authored, in various ionosphere-thermosphere research areas; see a list of his publications here, and ionosheric models here.
